On Friday, Newland Communities, backers of the Newland Sierra project, launched its “Better Choice” campaign seeking to defeat the referendum that will appear on the March ballot. The development would be built in the hills five miles north of downtown Escondido just west of Interstate 15 near Deer Springs Road.
Confusingly, a “yes” vote on the as-yet-unnamed measure would be to support the development while a “no” vote would be to reverse its approval by a 4-0-1 vote of the supervisors in September with Dianne Jacob absent.
