An unprecedented coalition of San Diegans – from business leaders to labor representatives to law enforcement and fire safety officials – will launch the countywide campaign to support the “Better Choice” measure, one of the highest-profile measures on the upcoming March 2020 ballot.
The “BetterChoice” measure asks voters to affirm the San Diego County Board ofSupervisors’ unanimous approval of the Newland Sierra plan to create affordably-priced homes and preserve open space on privately-owned land in northern San DiegoCounty, instead of the previous General Plan designation permitting up to two million square-feet of retail and office and 99 estate home lots.
Specifically, the “Better Choice” measure calls for the preservation of 1,200 acres of open space (about the same size as Balboa Park), along with the creation of 14parks, 19 miles of multi-use trails, 2,135 homes to address San Diego County’s housing crisis (62 percent will be affordably-priced for San Diego’s working families), as well as 80,000 square feet of neighborhood serving retail amenities, all centrally-located along the Interstate 15 corridor adjacent to Escondido, San Marcos and Vista.
